THE IMPORTANCE OF PAGE RANK
Page rank is the organic rank of a particular page on the Internet for a given search engine. The algorithms that search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN use are proprietary and secret. However, much is known about the relative weight of the page rank factors both on-page and off-page.
Google describes page rank the following way; “Page Rank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves ‘important’ weigh more heavily and help to make other pages ‘important’.” In fact, Google assigns a weighting number for each page that it indexes on the Internet with a rank of 0 to 10 (10 being the highest).
A term often confused with Page Rank is SERP Rank. SERP stands for Search Engine Results Page, and SERP Rank is the location of search engine results displayed for a given keyword or key-phrase search.
